So far this blog has been chronicling some of my baking exploits, with just a peek into my life in Madison. But for the next couple months, this will be a little more like a travel blog. I’m leaving tomorrow for a trip to Italy, and I’d like to share some of my travels and stories with you. (You can be sure that I’ll still talk a whole lot about food, though!)
I’m doing a program called Conversation Corps. I’ll be staying with a family in a town called Ascoli Piceno, and helping them out with their English. It’s an amazing opportunity for me to improve my Italian (which is quite minimal right now), explore this beautiful country (which I’ve long had some unexplained attachment to), and become a part of a different culture.
I’m really nervous right now, but I also feel ready to have a completely new experience. Plus, it hasn’t hit me at all yet, so I’m anticipating a complete freak out once I’m sitting on the plane.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about birthday cakes and family recipes, and my stories of making a mess in the kitchen – and I will be back to those stories when I return. But if you’re interested, I can’t wait to share some of my Italian life with you – the struggles, the lessons, and hopefully a few recipes from my new Italian mamma.
